Forever Friends 

​

In the bowels of the cold dark damp earth

Jenny the pit pony fights to give birth

Dobbin born puny his life looking bleak

Jenny back pulling wagons within the week

​

Down in the pit coal dark as night

Poor animals never seeing the light

Until strength gone no longer in their prime

Brought up to the surface for the first time

​

Sadly, their eyes unable to adjust to daylight

Spend their last days as if it's permanent night.
